Julia Bennett - Owner

I've loved dogs since I was a child. I grew up in California and my family owned an English Springer Spaniel called Freckles. She introduced me to the joy and companionship that comes when you share your life with a dog. Eventually Freckles had 13 pups and I would take care of them before and after school. It was a lot of work, but I thoroughly enjoyed every minute.

When I moved out of home my first dog was a pure-bred American Cocker Spaniel named Huckleberry. His show name was "Joytyme Black Tie Affair", as he had a black & white coat. I enjoyed showing Huck; we had a lot of fun and picked up a few ribbons along the way. When I decided to move to Australia there was no question that Huck would come with me. I thought I was simply bringing my beloved pet with me, I didn't realise that I was introducing the very first black and white American Cocker Spaniel imported from the U.S.A. to Western Australia.  His breeding went back to some very famous and top winning dogs in the U.S.A.  Debbie and Paul Wilkes from Staryanks American Cocker Spaniels took on the responsibility of breeding and showing him. Huckleberry made a name for himself in the ring, gaining his Australian Championship title and winning 5 All Breeds Best in Show awards,  as well as being the sire to several beautiful puppies.

I currently live in Margaret River with my wonderful husband David and our two beautiful children, Bryce and Georgia. We have three dogs, two amazing pure-bred Golden Retrievers, Beau and Mae, from Clairedoree Golden Retrievers and a fluffy Maltese/Shih -Tzu cross called Chloe.

My passion and love for dogs led me to develop the Margaret River Pet Retreat, as I came to realize that there is a much needed alternative to boarding kennels. With the help of our local Veterinarian, Michele Doney and her husband Wayne, who is the Practice Manager at the Margaret River Veterinarian Hospital, I have designed and developed a facility that will accommodate the individual needs of each dog.

My vision is to provide a home-like facility designed solely for the comfort and enjoyment of your pet, a place where you can leave your dog knowing that it will be happy, healthy and safe.

Margaret River Pet Retreat offers everything that I would wish for my own dogs!!!
